Baby video monitor recall
About 1.7 million video baby monitors with electrical cords have been recalled by their manufacturer, Summer Infant Inc. As evidenced in two recent deaths, the cords can present a strangulation hazard to infants and toddlers if placed too close to a crib. Because of this serious strangulation risk, parents and caregivers should never place these and other corded cameras within three feet of a crib.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission and Summer Infant urge parents to immediately check the location of the video monitors, including cameras mounted on the wall, and all electric cords to make sure the cords are out of arm’s reach of their child. Contact Summer Infant toll-free at (800) 426-8627 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday or visit the firm’s website at to receive a new permanent electric cord warning label about the strangulation risk and revised instructions about how to safely mount the camera and keep cords out of child’s reach.
Also recalled from Summer Infant Inc. were about 58,000 rechargeable batteries sold with certain Slim and Secure™ Video Monitors. The battery in the handheld video monitor can overheat and rupture, posing a burn hazard to consumers. For further information contact Summer Infant.

Please let me say that I am a father of three beautiful children. As parents our main priority is to make sure that our babies are safe and secure at all times, at whatever expense necessary. Baby monitors are just one way to help parents relieve some of the stress associated with being a concerned parent and as new parents or expecting parents, there is enough stess with just that alone. So, if baby monitors can relieve some of the stress (regardless of how small) it’s certainly worth it. Just my two cents.
