Chat on micropreemies

mom-and-preemiePlease join us Friday, November 9th, at 2 PM ET for a #preemiechat about micropreemies, babies born at less than 28 weeks and weighing less than 800 grams. Our guest will be Amanda Knickerbocker, @micropreemie, whose daughter spent over 200 days in the NICU.

Meet us on Twitter and share your experiences and challenges. Ask questions. Help other parents currently surviving the NICU rollercoaster with tips on things that really helped you survive those long days, weeks, months. We hope to see you then.

I’m a mom of a micro preemie (26weeks 5 days) born 11/17/11 (on national prematurity day). He transferred from a NICU to a children’s hospital PICU when he was 5 months and passed 6/12/12. It’s been the hardest year of our lives and will never get over the pain of losing him but we are hoping to help other parents who are going through similar situations.

My daughter was born at 23 wk and 6 days. Amazingly she’s been doing well and is now at home with us after a 3 month stay in the hospital. We’re so thankful to God that she has not shown any signs of lasting medical issues. I’ll be happy to join the chat and share our story.

  13. Aileen Says:

My micropreemie was born at 25 weeks and weighed in at 1 pound, 2 ounces. She stayed in the NICU for 4.5 months. I am very happy to report that she is now 3 years old and perfectly healthy! She didn’t get discharged with any medication or oxygen. We are very thankful for our little miracle!

  14. Rebecca Says:

My baby girl was born at 29 weeks 2lbs 15oz 15 1/2inches she was in the NICU for 37 days and is now 2 1/2 and hasn’t skipped a beat! She’s a fighter and just perfect! My best advice would be not to push or worry about milestones they all do it in their own sweet time! It’s a hard beginning for both baby and parents but it is something I would never change for the world she is amazing and the bond you have and get with that baby is precious! Be at the hospital as much as you can participate in all the programs they offer and kangaroo with that baby as much as you can! Xoxo mamas

Hi I have a 22 week old daughter (5 1/2months old) who was born on the queens jubilee 5th June 2012 weighing 2lb 3ozs and only needed oxygen and 1 blood transfusion of 24 mil and that is all and she came home at 8weeks & 4days old the most wonderful day of our lives :D !!! But I also lost a son at 2days old to GBS back in 2005 but there’s a catch I had him at 30weeks gestation and turned his machine off 2days later so I’ve seen both sides joy and sadness to having a preemie baby but if anyone wants to talk I’m here to talk xxxx
